In the year 1621 Rembrandt van Rijn took his first painting lessons at Langebrug 89 from his teacher Jacob van Swanenburgh. Unlike many of his contemporaries who traveled to Italy as part of their artistic training, Rembrandt never left the Dutch Republic during his lifetime.
